Travel insurance exclusions

Some major exclusions and circumstances under which the insurance company is not liable to make any compensation under a travel insurance policy are:

Medical expenses incurred towards the treatment of any pre-existing illness (unless of life threatening nature)
Pregnancy or complications related to the same (unless of life threatening nature)
Suicide, self inflicted injury, or illness
Mental disorder, anxiety, stress, or depression
Venereal disease
Alcohol/drug abuse
HIV/AIDS

Other exclusions include:

Traveling against the advice of a physician
Receiving a specified medical treatment declared in the physician's report
Traveling for the purpose of obtaining treatment
Your doctor has diagnosed your medical condition as terminal
You are caught in the midst of a war or nuclear perils
Flying as a passenger on aircraft other than properly licensed aircraft to carry passengers
You are a participant in professional sports or hazardous sports such as mountaineering, riding in races, driving in rallies
You are liable in an accident on a two wheeler unless you had a valid international license and were wearing a safety crash helmet
Losses from accidents on two wheeled motorized vehicles over 50cc
Moreover, if your passport gets lost or is stolen when left unattended and you do not inform the authorities, the insurance company is not liable to compensate for any losses.
Also, in case of loss of checked-in baggage, no partial loss or damage is payable. The company will also not pay for the loss of valuables, money, securities, tickets etc. for baggage claims.
