Overview

Expenses covered by health insurance include:

  • Medical practitioner, anesthetist, and consultant fees
  • Expenses on anesthesia, blood, oxygen, operation theatre, surgical appliances, medicines and drugs, diagnostic materials and X-rays, dialysis, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, cost of pacemaker, artificial limbs, cost of organs, and other similar expenses.

Insurers also provide cashless facility at network hospitals (those who have tied up with the insurer to form a network). They also provide cover for pre-hospitalization (up to 30 days) and post-hospitalization (up to 60 or 90 days from date of discharge) expenses, provided they are related to the ailment/accident for which you were hospitalized.

In the event of no claims, you are entitled to reimbursement of the cost of medical check-up once at the end of a block of every four or five claims-free years.
